Hadosan Carpet and Handcrafts Center

The complex, located on flat land opening onto the Cappadocian landscape at the northern end of the Ürgüp settlement, was intended to be a large facility with a complex function and a program covering 14,000 m², including carpet production, presentation, and sales, as well as souvenir sales, hospitality, carpet repair, and other administrative and technical units. The primary function of carpet display and sales required an environment that was completely enclosed, with artificial ventilation and lighting. The climate conditions of the surrounding area, insulation requirements, and the need to align conventional construction rationales—which the operating company would implement using its own resources—with functional requirements were critical considerations. The courtyard was intended to serve as a unifying space where the enclosed units would open up. In practice, the contribution of the stonemasons gained independent significance not only in the unique architectural design but also in achieving the formal outcome.

Hadosan Carpet and Handcrafts Center has undergone a major remodelling especially around the courtyard in 2004. This job was also undertaken by MArS-Architects. Currently the buildings and site are being use by Cappadocia University
